When I was a kid my favourite comic was 2000AD. It created a futurististic impression on my young mind and I was sure that by that year we would be riding to work in hovercars leaving our robots at home to tidy up. We would communicate with 3D holographic images, eat astronaut space food and play basketball with jet packs. Well now it's 2010 and the best we have is the iPhone. Ok so it's very clever but I still feel short changed ! How can a year look so good damn sci-fi and basically be pretty much the same ? I've got a feeling that by 2020 I'll still be waiting for my future world. Anyway none of this has anyhting to do with anything and as you are rapidly reaching for the unsubscribe button I will get on with it. After the holidays I drag myself back to work and nervously start my usual sniff for new music. Every year my dedication to the cause is tested to the maximum as I demand a fresh perspective on this thing we call 'House Music'. Well I can report that I have been more than happy with my weeks track hunt and went into the studio all night to produce my first mix of the year which is instantly available for you to download here. Acid Mondays
This inaugural mailout of 2010 is also a great way to introduce our new signings Acid Mondays whose excellent debut single is released next week - the vinyl is already for sale in the webshop. They have also supplied a great dj mix for our January podcast.
Acid Mondays are Dan Ward (AKA Negghead/Cafe Mambo), Alex Wolfenden (We
Love / Café Mambo) and Garry Todd (Ladylux AUS). Based in Ibiza during the
summer months for the past few years, Acid Mondays is both their artist name and
favourite post weekend activity, which more often than not involves taking in a
session at Cocoon or circo loco in the most psychedelic of ways.
Once these infamous sessions are finished and the studio is fired up, their addled
brains combine to produce some superb twisted excursions into percussive,
sprawling, sleazy house music. Inspired by the sets of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano,
Zip and many more led to the creation of these first tracks custom built for the
terraces that have inspired them!
