Pitchben - Pitchslap - Compost

Pitchben - PitchslapIt’s the 80s. A young boy is growing up to the soundtrack of Electro Funk, drawing influence from the likes of Jackson, The Whispers and D-Train and developing a genuine passion for music. Around 20 years later in 2011, this boy is releasing his debut album “Pitchslap” on Compost Records. This root of funk has been a constant since his childhood. Exploring new territories in the 90s Pitchben, known as ‘M-Tech’ at the time, started to deejay and produce at the young age of 13. Working the turntables like an instrument, he became one of the key figures in the world of Scratching and Turntablism. In 2002 he won the German DMC finals with a scratched interpretation of “Break Machine – Street Dance”.

Till Von Sein #LTD

Til Von SeinA concert pianist who practice like a slave every day plays a Liszt sonata with technical finesse and perfection and all it produces in you is a quick glance at your watch. But some kid only has to try out two chords on his badly tuned guitar and that moves you to the core of your existence. How come? What does the one have that the other doesn’t? This is not about finding answers to questions that ought to remain a mystery. It is about moments of utter amazement when an artist and pure emotions become one. In that the immanence of pathos, that makes the story of an old bluesman a valid language, gives soul music that same universal principle despite damage by market penetration.

Nigel Hayes Tales From The Shed Part 4

Nigel Hayes Tales From The Shed Part 4Just over one year since Nigel Hayes penned the first two volumes of ‘Tales From The Shed’, he now releases parts 3 and 4 on London’s Intelligent Audio. Nigel Hayes original material is extremely rare these days – aside from Intelligent Audio his last dance record came out in 2004, yet he remains one of the most respected players in house and techno. In IA he has found the perfect partner label to reflect his ethos. In customary IA fashion the release is split into two releases, one focused on House/Techno and the other allowing the artist to explore their full creativity with a more eclectic selection.  IA1.6 sees Nigel providing 4 tracks in the Deep/Tech House and Techno genres while IA2.6 is a blend of Afro-Beat, Funk and Broken Beat, with all tracks underpinned by live instrumentation.

The Burhorn - Beauty Of The Beast - Mole

The Burhorn - Beauty Of The Beast - MoleWhat happens if a jazz trumpeter (Thomas Burhorn) and hip hop producer (Michael Paetz aka Der Algorhythmiker) come together to make an album - jazzy trip hop with an eye for details, the warm sound of real instruments and the nostalgic crackle of long forgotten samples. The idea to fuse jazz with different styles isn’t new, yet The Burhorn create an independent, contemporary sound which convinces through its’ authenticity. Jazz listeners who want to hear strong bass drum and hip hop fans, who can differ a bass clarinet from a hookah will be more than satisfied.
