Johannesburg label WOT! Recordings continue their practice of having the biggest names in the deep house scene remix artists from South Africa. This time Office Gossip are invited to rework label owner Brett Jackson and long time production partner Orion, joining the ranks of Nick Holder, Matthias Tanzmann, Toka Project and Swirl People who have all appeared as remixers on previous EPs. ‘Change’ first appeared on Home Recordings in 2006 and is now given a new lease of life as the ‘Revisited Mix’, while fellow South African’s Aero Manyelo and Trancemicsoul also provide remixes. Vocals are provided by Jade, who also guested on Brett Jackson and Orion’s previous release ‘A House Is A Home’ for WOT in June 2008; a song which picked up great reviews and DJ support around the world.
As the owner of WOT! Recordings and head buyer at Soul Candi (one of the most respected compilation labels and distributors in South Africa) Brett Jackson brings not only a music production skill-set to the studio table, but also his extensive industry knowledge and experience as a well-travelled international house DJ. It’s the perfect complement to Orion’s production abilities which are rooted deeply in the early days of the modern dance music scene. Orion has a vast number of individual studio releases to his name and his work also draws heavily upon his experience as one of South Africa’s most popular founding dance music DJs.
Nathan Boddy’s Office Gossip project is best known for releases and remixes on Winding Road Records, the uber-cool and much respected label Nathan he co-owns with John Bucky. DJ Mag have described his music as “simply gorgeous”, going on to say “Office Gossip is up there with the cream of the label”, while DJs including Steve Bug, Tom Middleton and Atjazz have shown their love and cemented Nathan’s reputation as one of the best of the new generation of deep house producers.
South African Aero Manyelo used his job working in a Woolworth’s warehouse to save enough to study sound engineering which led him to be offered a bursary from Soul Candi. This led to work for BlackwHole Entertainment who released his debut vinyl EP. His music quickly became popular with leading South African DJs, both on compilation CDs and on radio. Aero cites Boddhi Satva, Sebo K, Ame, Chris Lake and Manoo amongst his inspirations and has played at the same parties as they visited South Africa.
Clement Phaswane aka Trancemicsoul grew up in Pretoria Soshanguve in South Africa. After hijacking his brother’s computer and installing some music production software he was bitten by the bug and like Aero Manyelo, went on to study sound engineering. His original music can be found on labels including Abicah Soul Records, Grooveland, Soul Candi and Shanga, and Clement has remixed Sans Soliel & Harrison Crump.
