Andrew Phelan & Origami - Dusted Roots Vol.6 - Prismatic Trax

Andrew Phelan & Origami’s ‘Dusted Roots’ EPs have become an eagerly anticipated series of releases since their inception on San Francisco’s Prismatic Tracks in September 2008. Volume 6 is anticipated to be the penultimate Dusted Roots EP, a set which has always represented a departure from the traditional style Prismatic, drawing heavily on a classic, trackier, more sample based sound. Previous volumes in the series have reached #1 on Stompy.com’s top 100, received praise from iDJ, DJ Mag, DMC Update and Urb, and hit the playlists of DJs as wide ranging as Funk D’Void, Heather, Mark Farina, Mazi, Jay-J, Colette, Doc Martin, Robert Owens and Laurent Garnier. For Volume 6 Andrew Phelan & Origami present a 4 track EP of big basslined, deep, funky and disco-tinged ass-shakin’ jams.

From a tiny 2nd floor studio facing a gritty San Francisco alley, Andrew Phelan and Origami have made a serious dent in the international house community through releases on labels including Drop Music, Body Rhythm, Eight-Tracks and So Sound. Their sound is a schizophrenic blend of funk, tech, deep and electro, all tied to a core of live instruments and deceptively catchy vocals. Tapped often for their transformative, scene-stealing remix work, they also play well with others, laying tracks with vocalists like Brown and Audio Angel, and moonlighting in maximal-electro foursome The Fingermonsters. Releases in 2009 include tracks for Amenti and Lingo and a remix for Lost My Dog alongside lots more for Prismatic.

Founded in 2005, Prismatic Tracks is run out of San Francisco’s famed Moulton Studios complex by DJ and producer Andrew Phelan. The label is focused on a blend of deep, funk, and tech based house music, driven by the sounds of musicians and vocalists such as Origami, Audio Angel and Brown. Prismatic’s roster features some of the premier names in house music, including Bryan Jones, Chris Lum, Christian Malloni, George Cochrane, Jake Childs, Luke Solomon, QBurns Abstract Message, Ross Couch, Santiago & Bushido, and Scope.
