Matt Prehn - We're All Funky EP - Headtunes - HTD008Boston’s Headtunes Recordings turn to one of the world’s best, yet under-rated, hotbeds of deep house music, South Africa, for the eighth release in their digital-only series.  Specifically, they turn to Matt Prehn from Cape Town, perhaps best known for being a member of live band Bang Bang.  As the EP title suggests the tracks here fall firmly into the funk category and will appeal to fans of bumping East Midlands house in the vein of Inland Knights, Jay West and Da Sunlounge.  Both Jazzy Eyewear and Leo Portela remix ‘Boom Boom Bye’ taking it into deep and dubby territory while retaining the bump factor.

Bang Bang’s music has been released on labels including Myna, Baker Street, Shrewd, Agave, Candy Music and most recently Eight-Tracks.  In 2010 they will also appear on Lost My Dog and Kolour Recordings.  Matt’s solo material has so far been released on Onethirty and his own Southbound Recordings.

Jazzy Eyewear is head honcho of the Miami based label So Sound and has created his own unique style over the year that infuses funk, soul, jazzy samples, and classic house music.  He has releases on some of the top underground house labels such as Aroma, Icon, Doubledown, Nordic Trax, Siesta and OAE.  The Winter Music Conference 2010 in Miami will see So Sound team up with Headtunes and other labels including Lost My Dog for daytime and evening events.

Leo Portela is a true experimenter, expertly turning his hand to eclectic ambient styles, drum & bass, downtempo and house under various guises including Liongold, DubRider, Index and Wax Hero.  His work has been released on such diverse labels such as URL, Onethirty, Big Chief, Large and Fabric.

Since 2005 Headtunes have released music by respected underground producers including Audio Soul Project, Grant Dell, Pete Dafeet, Dexter, Sleazy McQueen and Jay West alongside up and coming talents such as Brenden Wesley, Markus Mehta and Bass Experiment.
