- Category: Releases Deep Tech House
Short Bus Kids hand over the reins to Greg Zoi for the next installment on their Bounce House Recordings imprint. The South African transplant who now calls Dallas, Texas, his home provides his first ever release in the form of ‘Loungin’’, a super deep, bass heavy, sun-drenched house track truly befitting it’s name. Two remixes come from the UK courtesy of C-Soul who bring some bleepy, quirky and techy elements, and Tom Special Interest who gives it the Nottingham bump factor that will be familiar to fans of his label Phobic. Short Bus Kids complete proceedings with a bubbling, spaced out interpretation.
As a long-time member of a respected Midwest DJ collective, Greg Zoi built a reputation for his uniquely deep and soulful house sets, holding residencies and performing at numerous underground dance clubs, house nights and electronic music events across the Midwest. He has also played in the extensive and diverse South African dance music scene, at some of the country's hottest nightspots and events. Most recently Greg has been a repeat fixture at the world-famous Ghostbar in both Dallas and Las Vegas where he has graced the decks at the uber-hot house night ‘Rocket Science’ alongside the likes of Mark Farina, Lil' Louie Vega, DJ Sneak, Troydon, Hipp-e, Justin Martin and Steve Lawler to pick just a few names from an impressive list. Studio efforts from Greg are receiving strong support from the heads of happening house labels like Phonoshuffle, Grab, WOT!, Soul Urge and Bounce House.
C-Soul is the production team of Magnus Asberg and Jimmy Day. Based in Brighton, UK, their music has been released on labels including Plastic City, DiY, Onethirty and This Is! amongst others and they have worked with esteemed names such as Robert Owens, Inland Knights, Eddie Richards, Nathan Coles, Schmoov and Justin Harris. Magnus Asberg is probably Brighton’s busiest DJ with multiple weekly headline and support slots.
Tom Latham is one half of the Midland’s Special Interest, where he is involved with the Smokescreen Soundsystem after starting out playing at DiY’s legendary parties. As Special Interest and with solo projects Tom has released music on labels including Salted, Mobile Trax, Guesthouse, Tango and his own Phobic Recordings which was set up in 2007 and continues today.
iDJ magazine’s recent Short Bus Kids feature stated that the Kids’ are “…some of the best current providers of bumpin’, west-coast-meets-east-Midlands deep house…” and drew comparisons between the sound of their label Bounce House Recordings and respected imprints such as Drop Music, Classic and So Sound. The productions of DK Watts and Lance Lever are inspired by the deep rooted dance music culture of their hometown San Francisco; the duo vow to stay true to those roots in their music despite DK Watts’ recent move to Europe.
